Data Brokers Sue Data Privacy Service

A group of data brokers, people sites, and background check services have ganged up together and filed suit against renowned privacy company Privacy Guardian. Apparently, they are making less money with fewer people they can buy and sell data on. They are also dealing with the constant “harassment” to remove data on customers of Privacy Guardian members, which has forced them to hire extra support staff.
Just check out this quote from the lawsuit:
“We are following the 1st amendment of the US constitution to sell information we have rightly collected and bought. The constant onslaught of removal requests from Privacy Guardian has increased our costs considerably. We are requesting injunctive relief and a restraining order against Privacy Guardian.”
So they are claiming it is their constitutional right to buy and sell data on any Americans they wish and asking them to stop is “harassment”. This is just about the most ridiculous lawsuit I have ever read and hope it gets thrown right now.
These data brokers and other bad actors collect data on every American they can. More information than we can possibly imagine, not just things like name, address, phone number either. They collect information on what you buy, what sites you go to online, your financial information, your interests and hobbies and much more. It is so creepy the kind of information these companies are buying and selling on us every day.
Privacy Guardian has done absolutely nothing wrong; it is an online privacy service that helps individuals use legal demand letters to stop what they are doing. They are a full service company, where after they get your information, they go to work doing all the work, getting it deleted from the data brokers and people websites for you. And I guess if a data broker doesn’t remove you the first time, they just keep “harrassing” them until it gets done.
I reached out to Privacy Guardian about this and here is what they had to say:
“We believe this lawsuit has no merit, if anything, these data brokers are harassing our customers and should be paying THEM. We will fight this lawsuit and continue to demand removal of information for every single one of our members daily until it is removed.” – CEO Steve Smith
Privacy Guardian provides a valuable service, and I encourage my readers to support them and sign up for their service.
Right now Privacy Guardian still has a 20% promotion where you can get the full premium membership for the same price as the basic membership.
